The Bartender’s Choice Awards recognise the best of the industry when it comes to bars, bartenders, cocktails and restaurants. Bartenders and owners from across the Nordic region watched as the results were announced for each country and in the Danish category, five of the six awards went to Copenhagen businesses and members of staff.
Here’s the full list of incredible awards given to Copenhageners and their businesses:
- Pulp – Best New Cocktail Bar
- Duck & Cover – Best Cocktail Bar
- Sanchez – Best Restaurant
- Bird – Best Cocktail Menu
- Barking Dog – Best Atmosphere
We can’t say that we’re too surprised, given the amazing nightlife in Copenhagen but the city really shone at last night’s ceremony, so here’s a bit of information about each of these fantastic places.
Pulp
📍Sankt Hans Torv 3
‘It’s a shithole but it’s a nice shithole’ is what it says on the menu but it’s actually a pretty swanky place, and clearly the Bartender’s Choice Awards thinks so too! Here you’ll find wines and craft beers from across Europe. Plus, the extensive cocktail menu will have you salivating, including delicious inventions like the ‘Horchata XXX’, consisting of peanut milk, almond liqueur, agave syrup, lime, tequila & ceylon cinnamon.
Duck & Cover
📍Dannebrogsgade 6
Everybody’s heard of Duck & Cover and if you Google ‘best cocktail bars in Copenhagen’ it will almost certainly be featured in every article. The cocktails here are expertly crafted and the menu isn’t as large as a lot of other cocktail bars but that’s fine because there’s something to suit everybody. You can try unique flavour combinations here like the ‘Flatbush’, containing homemade falernum spice liqueur, dark rum and vermouth.
Sanchez
📍Istedgade 60
If you’re into agave spirits then you must visit Sanchez because they have a full menu of these delicious drinks. Plus, there are some delicious cocktails to choose from, including the ‘Paloma’ which contains Tequila Ocho, grapefruit soda and lime juice. The Michelada is very traditional in Mexico and plenty of people adore it. It’s made from lager with added chili and lime juice. The food is excellent, created by Chef Rosio Sanchez whose dishes won the Sanchez the title of Europe’s best street food in 2018.
Bird
📍Gl. Kongevej 102, 1850 Frederiksberg
Bird is the place to find outstanding cocktails, plus tons of tasty beers, wines and ciders. Their ‘Bonfire Manhattan’ cocktail was nominated as one of the best cocktails in Denmark, so we’d recommend trying it. You can also see some incredible DJs and listen to fantastic music at Bird.
Barking Dog
📍Sankt Hans Gade 19
Speaking of atmosphere, Barking Dog won the award for best atmosphere in all of Denmark and we think that the super-friendly and accomodating staff can be credited with creating that atmosphere. It’s a cocktail bar without an ego, serving cocktails as beautiful as they are tasty. You’ll find pretty inventive glasses here too like the Mexican 8-Ball served inside of an 8-ball. They also make their own non-alcoholic beer, which is known to taste delicious.
