The tragic tale of the RMS Titanic and its fateful maiden voyage has sent ripples through time and still fascinates many to this day. Now, you can step inside the story of the British ocean liner like never before at Titanic: An Immersive Voyage. Docking, fittingly, at Shipyard Art Gallery on May 16, this exhibition invites you to walk the hallowed halls of the luxurious ship, explore an extensive collection of artefacts and experience its heart-twisting final moments. Through a combination of cutting-edge technology and detailed room recreations, you will be plunged into history like never before.
What can you expect at Titanic: An Immersive Voyage?
Thousands of feet deep below the ocean’s surface, hidden among the shadows of an untouched seabed, lies the rusted remains and storied vestiges of the Titanic. We might not be able to visit it ourselves, but you can journey into this piece of the past and learn all about its creation, construction and voyage – from its departure at Southampton to its untimely end in the North Atlantic Ocean – at this immersive exhibition. It may be over 113 years since the Titanic sank in April 1912, but there is still plenty to discover about the ship and its unfortunate passengers.
Titanic: An Immersive Voyage features over 300 artefacts, from newspaper clippings to the uniforms of the staff, which give insight into life on the ship. You’ll be able to follow in the footsteps of those on board as life-size recreations, a moving virtual reality experience, video animations and a striking immersive gallery transport you back in time. Prepare for goosebumps – you’ll even experience the dramatic moment the doomed ocean liner came face-to-face with the iceberg.
Whether everything you know was learnt from watching James Cameron’s iconic film, or you’ve diligently thumbed through history books and soaked up every fact you can find, this fascinating exhibition gives you a new chance to immerse yourself in the world of the Titanic.
