Candlelight began paying tribute to classical music greats, from Vivaldi to Mozart, in some of the city’s most emblematic buildings. However, the enchanting series of candlelit concerts continues to spread and its glow is now lighting up the music of contemporary icons including ABBA, the Swedish awesome-foursome that took over the world.
Chart-toppers from 1974 to 1983, as well as in 2021 with their newest album ‘Voyage’, ABBA is one of the best-selling music acts in history. It’s estimated that the supergroup has sold somewhere between 150 million to 385 million records worldwide, with their hit songs spanning dance classics to heartbreaking ballads.
The upcoming Candlelight tribute will feature songs like “Waterloo”, which was commemorated as Eurovision’s best song, as well as other hits such as “Dancing Queen”, “Mamma Mia!”, and “Money, Money, Money”. These will be performed by Ensemble Resonans, who will reimagine a selection of your favourite ABBA songs on strings for what’s bound to be a captivating performance.
Other hits to be performed on the night include “Fernando”, “Knowing Me, Knowing You”, “Super Trouper” and “The Winner Takes It All”. “Voulez-vous” to experience Candllight’s tribute to ABBA in the beautifully-domed and glowing Dansekapellet?
The enchanting concert takes place on Saturday 22 October. There will be three 60-minute performances at 5pm, 6:45pm and 8:45pm.
