Christmas is a big deal in Copenhagen!
With Denmark opening to tourists from October 25, you can bet there will be a rush of excited faces from across the world, ready to feel the wonderful atmosphere of a Copenhagen Christmas. And who can blame them? The Danish Christmas spirit is world-famous! In Santa Barbara, California, there’s even a Danish village named Solvang that holds an incredible Julefest with all of the hallmarks of a Danish Christmas market! So, if you love Christmas then Copenhagen is going to blow your socks (or Christmas stockings) off with its many magical festive markets.
1. Julemarked Kongens Nytorv
📅November 12 – December 22
Julemarked is so cosy and soul-warming, with plenty of traditional Danish Christmas treats on offer. From gløgg to pepparkakor and plenty in between, this market combines food stalls with gorgeous homemade gifts and ornaments you’ll want to take home and give to your family. Moreover, this beautiful square in Copenhagen is quintessentially Danish, having been here since 1670.
2. Tivoli
📅November 19 – January 2
Tivoli is one of Copenhagen’s most famous locations, and when it comes to season events they really go all-out here. Danes really know how to create an incredible atmosphere and Tivoli could not embody this national talent more. The decorations are always magical, then there are stalls dotted around the gardens and, of course, you get to go on all of the rides because the Christmas market is included in your ticket fee.
3. HC Andersen Julemarked
📅November 12 – December 12
HC Andersen Julemarked celebrates the incredible spirit of H C Andersen’s fairytales with an (almost) equally enchanting market, full of delicious food to eat, performances, and lovely gifts to browse. You can find it at Nytorv and you’ll be amazed by the decorations.
4. Højbro Plads Julemarked
📅November 12 – December 22
It costs absolutely nothing to walk around Højbro Plads Julemarked and it’s such a lovely place to spend the evening. There will be plenty of Christmas trees, warming mugs of delicious beverages, and hygge in spades!
5. Kronborg Christmas Market
📅November 29 – December 8
Ever been to a Christmas Market in a Medieval castle? Well, this year’s your chance because the Kronborg market is back on. Here you can buy clothes, toys and much more in absolutely magnificent surroundings. Entrance is 50 DKK on Fridays and 75 DKK on Saturdays and Sundays, but that also buys you entrance to the other parts of the castle.
