Every year, Time magazine publishes a list of the World’s Greatest Places and there are only 50 places mentioned from across the whole globe. This year our very own Copenhagen has made it onto the list, ad for all the right reasons!
Of course, Copenhagen hosted the Tour de France this year and Copenhageners are proud of the sheer amount of bicycles on the streets versus cars. As other cities fill with the fumes spewed out by millions of cars every day, Copenhagen has taken a different approach entirely to travel.
The entry for Copenhagen on the World’s Greatest Places list notes that the city has dubbed 2022 the ‘Year of the Bicycle’. The ministry of transport has invested a whopping $64 million (approx. DKK 474 million) this year alone in building more cycle lanes across the country.
By 2025 Copenhagen aspires to have half of its daily commuters cycling to work and the city is well on track to achieve that goal. Plus, taking your bike with you to lunch, dinner or drinks it not a problem in Copenhagen. There are places to secure a bicycle everywhere you look in the city.
The article mentions a few great spots in Copenhagen, too. The Design Museum, which has just been renovated, is mentioned. So are the plant-based, vegan restaurants Souls and Ark.
Amongst the hotels mentioned are Villa Copenhagen, which is a fairly new and incredibly impressive hotel, the NH Hotel Copenhagen and the Scandic Norreport. The latter has a stunning rooftop bar with breathtaking views of the city.
