Who doesn’t love pizza? You can have it vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and lactose free. It’s a staple in plenty of countries across the world and in Europe we’re pretty much obsessed. You might think that Copenhagen being so far from Italy would mean that the pizza is substandard but you’d be wrong because Copenhagen’s Bæst was just voted the fourth-best pizzeria in Europe (excluding Italy).
So what’s so great about Bæst? Well, this year the Danish restaurant won two awards at Top Pizza Europe 2022. The first was for ‘Best Service 2022’ and the second was for ‘Innovation and Sustainability 2022’. They also received the ‘Green Oven 2022’ award alongside Sartoria Panatieri in Barcelona, which highlights places with ‘high standards for environmental sustainability’.
So where can you find the best pizza in Europe outside of Italy itself? Here are the top ten ratings:
- Peppe Pizzeria – Paris
- Fratelli Figurato – Madrid
- 50 Kalò London – London
- Bæst – Copenhagen
- Sartoria Panatieri – Barcelona
- Via Toledo Enopizzeria – Vienna
- Pizza Zulù – Fürth
- La Piola Pizza – Brussels
- Kytaly – Geneva
- La Balmesina – Barcelona
You’ll find the stunning restaurant at Guldbergsgade 29 and the majority of the ingredients used are organic, often sourced from Denmark. The restaurant makes its own burrata and ricotta and the chefs also make their own salami and sausages. At Bæst you can expect thin-crust pizzas, cooked in a pizza oven with that lovely, almost charred yet fluffy crust. You can book a table on the website.
Also on the list were several other Copenhagen businesses serving mouthwatering slices. Pizzeria Lucia made it to number 15, followed by Surt at number 24. Pizzeria MaMeMi was also named the 50th best pizza place in Europe. So, now pizza lovers know where to go when they’re traveling, or even just munching a slice at home and Copenhagen definitely has something to be proud of!
