Don’t worry, it’s on Google Maps.
If you didn’t know that cocktail bar 1656 was at Gasværksvej 33 in Copenhagen, you’d walk straight past it. In fact, as it’s covered in graffiti and lacking any signage, you may walk past even if you know the address. However, it’s not a place that you should overlook because here you can treat yourself to an incredible cocktail in the comfiest, coolest setting.
It’s been on Gasværksvej for years, and there is a small window on the front of the property, so eagle-eyed members of the public may have spied the bar from the outside. However, it really doesn’t look like commercial premises, and that’s part of its charm. The other part of its charm is the delicious variety of cocktails made by 1656’s expert mixologists.
The menu changes seasonally, so you can be sure to find something tasty that celebrates the current season and the flavour combinations are always creative. In the past, their Spring menu has included a mix of refreshing, and often fruity flavours, like the particularly tasty Dutchman’s Lemonade, made from bourbon, grapefruit, Cointreau, rosewater syrup and ginger beer, amongst other complementary flavours. They don’t play around – these cocktails pack a flavour punch and they might be a bit too delicious if you ask us.
You can enjoy one of these scrumptious drinks on some genuinely comfortable sofas, and at Secret Kobenhavn our bums have been numbed by many an uncomfortable bar stool, so we appreciate it. Then, you can relax, chat and listen to whatever fantastic music they happen to be playing, and it’s bound to be suited to the lovely atmosphere. They’re only open Wednesday to Saturday at the moment, but that might change soon, and you can book a table online.
