Where to soak up the sun with friends.
It’s not always sunny up here in the North of Europe, but when it is we like to make the most of it. We’re more than halfway through Summer, and it’s not like Autumn is going to bring us any proper picnic weather. So, we’re ready to dig out our picnic baskets now and enjoy the remainder of the Summer sun. The perfect picnic spot should have either soft grass or picnic tables and some lovely scenery to look at whilst you munch on tasty sandwiches and chat with friends. Here’s where we like to enjoy a picnic in Copenhagen:
1. Botanisk Have
📍Gothersgade 128, 1123 København K
The Botanical Gardens are absolutely picturesque, and perfect for a day sat relaxing on the grass. Plus, if rain starts falling there’s always the Palm House with its beautiful foliage in which to seek shelter and explore. You can read about Botanisk Have on the website.
2. Kongens Have
📍Øster Voldgade 4A, 1350
There’s plenty of time in the King’s Garden for everyone to sprawl out and enjoy the lovely soft grass with a picnic. With unbeatable views and cooling foliage all around, it’s the perfect place to really relax with friends.
3. Amager Fælled
📍Artillerivej 73B, 2300
Right now Amager Fælled is bursting with beautiful wildflowers, and there’s plenty of soft grass and benches on which to enjoy a picnic. A trip to Amager Fælled feels like a proper day out to the countryside, but it’s easily accessible from the city.
4. Frederiksberg Gardens
📍2000 Frederiksberg
Frederiksberg Gardens is really easy to get to, and there’s plenty of space here so people can spread out not disturb one another. On a hot day, you can seek shade under the trees and enjoy the view, which is beautiful from every perspective.
5. Ørstedsparken
📍Nørre Voldgade 1, 1358
This lovely park is an excellent place to keep cool. Grassy verges surround a pretty lake, right in the middle of the park, and there’s plenty of space around the lake for everyone to have their own spot, with amazing views.
6. Dyrehaven
📍Dyrehaven 4, 2800 Kongens Lyngby
Dyrehaven is one of our favourite places in Copenhagen full stop, but it’s our favourite place ever to have a picnic. This is primarily because there are deer everywhere, and they’re just so fascinating to watch.
7. Det Kongelige Biblioteks Have
📍Rigsdagsgården 9-13, 1218
Indre By has is full of relaxing, leafy spots and Det Kongelige Biblioteks Have is one of the best. In the Summer, we like to sit on the lush grass with a picnic and listen to the water pour from the central water fountain with every hour that passes by. There’s plenty of shade here, under the beautiful trees and the garden is open until 10 pm every day.
8. Landbohøjskolens Have
📍Bülowsvej 17, 1870 Frederiksberg
If you’re looking for somewhere with plenty of greenery, Landbohøjskolens Have is just that. With over 6000 plants in these university gardens, it’s an absolute oasis of green, perfect for a picnic.
