The thing that we love most about Copenhagen is the people who live here, and Copenhagener’s incredible capacity to show kindness, support and solidarity with people across the world. This is why we were so pleased and inspired to see the amazing lightwork ‘A Dozen Sun’ surrounded by blue and yellow flowers.
‘A Dozen Sun’ was created by artist Maj D and it was previously located on the deck at Skuespilhuset. It was truly a sight to see, measuring 3.6 metres high and wide, and now its found its home in the centre where it can be enjoyed by every person who passes.
The name ‘A Dozen Sun’ sounds a little awkward but it’s intentional. The measurements of the piece are all divisible by twelve – a dozen. Plus, it’s designed to send a message about how we still utilise and discard so much plastic in 2022. Of course, it’s made of recycled plastic and it’s so visually arresting, placed in front of Christiansborg Palace which has stood strong since 1928.
You can visit the square and lay blue and yellow flowers amongst the many brought by Copenhageners in the past few days and tag any photos with #sunforpeace, at the artist’s request.
